LEE Young-Jae

Young-Jae Lee was born in Seoul in 1951. After finishing her degree at the College of Art Education in Seoul in 1972 she sought an apprenticeship in Korea as a potter, but she couldn’t find a workshop that would accept a female apprentice. As a result, she travelled to Germany and apprenticed to Christine Tappermann.

Life in Germany and her many contacts with fine artists were so exciting for Young-Jae Lee that she decided to follow up her apprenticeship with further study at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Wiesbaden. After completing a degree there in 1978, she founded her own workshop in Sandhausen near Heidelberg. In 1987 she took on a position as manager of the Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe in Essen.
