ENOMOTO Chifuyu
Enomoto Chifuyu was born in 1950 in Sagamihara, in the Kanagawa Prefecture. In 1969 he began his studies of business in Tokyo. From 1972 to 1973 he took a break from his studies and travelled through South America for two years. His experiences there strongly influenced his decision, after finishing his studies, to work as a craftsman rather than in business.
After completing his academic work, he became a disciple of a potter in Echizen (Fukui Prefecture) to learn the art of bamboo weaving. From 1978 to 1979 he studied bamboo weaving at the Technical College for Bamboo Weaving In Beppu (Ôita Prefecture), the center of Japanese bamboo basket production.
While still studying there, he opened his first workshop and took part in the most important juried Japanese exhibition for hand crafts. |
