BAHLMANN Alexandra

Alexandra Bahlmann was born in Düsseldorf in 1961. After completing secondary school, she went on to a three-year apprenticeship with Peter and Marie Hassenpflug. From 1984 to 1987 she studied goldsmithing at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. The heart of the program consisted in the creation of extravagant art-jewellery pieces. Functionality and wearability were not at issue. The experience left a deep impression on Bahlmann and from that point on, her focus was on jewellery as a functional object.

From 1987 to 1990 she studied goldsmithing with Hermann Jünger at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and in 1990 she completed her degree. Then, after ten years of apprenticing, she opened her own workshop in Munich.
