BAIER Otto

Otto Baier was born in 1943 in Munich into a family that already had a tradition of working with iron: his father and grandfather operated a blacksmith’s workshop in Obermenzing bei München.
After finishing secondary school Baier began apprenticing as a blacksmith. From 1965 he studied design at the Fachhochschule Aachen. He finished his studies in 1968. In the same year he passed the German examination for master smiths. In 1972 he took over his father’s workshop in Obermenzing. There has been a forge there for some 500 years, which makes it one of the oldest in Germany.
