For more than 10 years, Elmar Weinmayr has been
representing Japanese artists and craftsmen in Japan
and throughout the world. His gallery is located in the
heart of Kyoto. He specializes in contemporary
Japanese applied arts: lacquer ware, tea ceramics,
woven bamboo, weaving, fabric dyeing, metal ware,
etc.
In his gallery, one finds strictly functional
everyday objects, which are so well designed and
produced that they are also artworks. Works that the
artists personally hand craft as single pieces or as a
small series -- pieces in which traditional Japanese
aesthetics and modern aesthetics harmonize.
The gallery is regarded as one the finest in Japan for
contemporary applied art. |
